Denman Island Baroque Music Workshop and Festival

The 2nd Baroque Music Workshop and Festival will feature music by Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), notably L’Orfeo, one of the earliest operas which represents the very beginning of baroque music. The Workshop, for accomplished amateur and student singers and instrumentalists, will put together a concert production of this work on May 12 under the direction of the internationally famous Marco Vitale. He will be assisted by violinist Enrique Gomez-Cabrero Fernandez and wind player Romeo Ciuffa who with Marco delighted our audiences last year. The festival will also feature a performance (May 5) of baroque dance by the Richmond based Historical Performance Ensemble with live chamber music. There will also be talks and performances by the workshop instructors, a community baroque concert where all locals are welcome to perform, and an exhibit relating to the music and times of Monteverdi.
