New Years Eve with Roots Roundup and DJ Eliazar

Roots Roundup return with their 20 year legacy on this fine island of Denman. DJ Eliazar is our hometown groover who will be playing before, between, and after Roots Roundup to keep folks dancing and creating merriment to celebrate the ending of 2017, and dance in 2018.

This is an Adults Only Event, though there will be a kids party at the Activity Center. Bring your little ones to the Denman Activity Centre for the pajama jam along with a blanket to snuggle up in if they won’t make it past the countdown. The kids party goes till 12:30, though the big kids (adult) party will go at least till 1am.

Roots Roundup plays a high energy hybrid of globe-spanning music, mashing up the sounds of rock’n roll, reggae, ska, afro-beat, folk, funk and pure old school punk rock. The Roots Roundup lineup has evolved over the years as members pursued various musical interests including performing, writing, recording and teaching. Core Roots members Greg Hathaway, Dave Hannah (Dym-E-Tree), Barry Taylor, Keith Rose, David Hathaway, Mark Campbell, Shuggy Milligan and special guest trombonist Andy Cakes reunited in 2005.

DJ Eliazar has been travelling the globe spreading the Vintage Remix and Electro Swing sounds from his secret rebel base in the rouge nation of Denmanistan in the territorial waters of Columbia Britanna. The quest for new aural excitement flowed from growing up in Chicago within a thriving industrial, punk, new wave, and burgeoning house music scene in the late 80s. In more recent times while galavanting in Montreal he was a co-founder of the Speakeasy Electro Swing group of events that now span the globe with events in 18 cities in 9 countries, as well as co founding the Balkan Beats events which have inspired many a sweaty patron to dance on tables since 2010. 2017 is a big year for Eliazar, with another EP release for his Whiskey Tango Foxtrot band (with Atom Percy and JS Leblanc), a new Electro Blues compilation for Speakeasy Recordings, the Speakeasy 6 year anniversary show in Montreal, slots at the Boomtown festival in the UK, starting the Neon Time Machine series in Victoria, producing the Cross-Pollination Festival on Denman, and so much more. Highlights of 2015/16 included playing at the Smithsonian in DC, The Bulldog Cafe in Mexico City, Montreal Jazzfest for 5 nights, private shows in the Yukon, Diversity Festival (Texada, BC), Boomtown Faire (UK) & The Atmosphere Gathering in Cumberland, BC.
